What is a Substance Abuse Professional?

A Substance Abuse Professional is a DOT qualified individual under the § 40.287.  The SAP evaluates DOT-qualified employees who have violated a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol regulations and is able to make education and/or treatment recommendations and determine if the employee is eligible to return to his/her safety-sensitive duties.

What is the Return-To-Duty Process?

After an SAP has been selected in Clearinghouse, an assessment will be completed, education and/or treatment recommendations will be made, then the SAP will schedule a re-evaluation to determine if you're eligible for an RTD test.
